General Gordon Hotel

This was an exceptionally challenging but ultimately very satisfying project for Rohrig, giving a major face lift to a historic hotel. It involved integrating major rebuilding and renovation works into the heritage façade, then restoring all the heritage detail including columns, balconies and tiles.

Rohrig was involved early in the project and worked with Anthony Vavayis Architecture to develop the design for the 2-storey building, which has four bars, a commercial kitchen, eight rooms of accommodation and a terrace with retractable roof. Engineering works to join the new structure to the existing façade were particularly complex and called for constant collaboration with the architects, contractor and consultants.

The interior fit-out took advantage of Rohrig’s mock-up process and integrated the operational lessons from the client’s other properties. Value engineering and solutions helped the project deliver a product that will stand the test of time.

The end result is worthy of the hotel’s namesake, Major-General Charles George Gordon, and restores community pride in the building that has stood since 1932.

“Rohrig consistently exhibited great professionalism, knowledge, experience and an overall patience and understanding of JDAs vision for the hotel.” – Group Operating Manager – JDA Hotels
