St John Henry Newman College, Stage 1
Rohrig is excited to announce the completion of the first stage of an all-new school development, as St John Henry Newman College in Tarragindi, Brisbane, welcomes its inaugural student base in 2026.
Stage one of the independent, co-educational school was designed by Ink Duck and managed by Project Strategies, encompassing a new multi-use learning building and refurbishment of an existing chapel and hall, as well as external features like playgrounds, gardens and connecting footpaths.
The Rohrig team kicked off the exciting project well before ground was turned, starting with proactive value engineering and design input that allowed us to prioritise essential works and remove non-critical scope.
Physical works involved the demolition of an existing house, before the new Building B was constructed in its place. This new building contains two prep classrooms, amenities, a data room and outdoor deck area.
We then turned our sights to the refurbishment of an existing hall, transforming it into an inviting school hall to be used for a variety of student activities. We also refurbished an existing chapel, converting it into a dual-use chapel and administration building.
This project was located in a high-density residential area which required careful management of traffic and site activity. Road closures were necessary at certain points in the construction process, and our team also used acoustic timber fencing along the site boundary to minimise noise for locals.
