Rohrig recently returned to Ormiston College, to lead the reconstruction of the Centre for Learning and Innovation (CLI) following a devastating fire in 2024.

Having built the original award-winning facility in 2018, and proud to share a 30-year working relationship with the College, we were able to mobilise immediately to make the site safe and commence the rebuild.

While the main structure remained intact, the interior required a complete reconstruction after being destroyed by the fire. This presented an opportunity for the College to make adjustments to the layout, optimising its potential.

Building on the award-winning architectural design by BSPN Architecture, the project features a new interior design scheme by Tom Mark Henry, responding to updated functional requirements, material availability and the opportunity to refresh the internal environment with a refined palette of colours, textures and features throughout.

Once the opportunity to redesign the interiors was identified, Rohrig seamlessly overlapped design and construction activities, enabling rapid progression without impacting programme

Key functional upgrades included additional ‘incubator’ learning pods, and a Junior Learning space featuring a unique ‘secret tunnel’ connecting to the library. We also constructed two additional STEM rooms to support the growing curriculum and student numbers at the College.

Delivered within a live school environment, the project required strict safety protocols. We isolated the building with locked gates, and used spotters for managed crossings on shared pathways, ensuring day-to-day activities at the College were unaffected.
