Rohrig recently completed a new STEAM Centre at Hills International College in Jimboomba, Queensland, marking the second major stage of the school’s masterplan following our recent delivery of the college’s HPE Centre.

The new two-storey facility sits at the heart of the campus, featuring seven general learning areas across two levels, four specialist science rooms (chemistry, physics, biology and general science), art and media art rooms, a photography studio, a kiln room, a preparation room, withdrawal rooms, amenities and storerooms. The Rohrig team also delivered a new forecourt with off-form feature concrete and tiered seating, alongside a bridge connecting the building to the existing resource centre.

Design of the new centre was undertaken by school architecture specialists, Novum. The brick façade ties in with the existing school layout, and the specialist science spaces feature chemical cupboards, fume extraction and chemical resistant laminate and flooring.

This project also required our team to work within a live school environment with significant foot traffic and multiple public interfaces. We established a temporary dedicated access road and programmed works around the college’s examination periods. We also coordinated a major power upgrade outside of school hours using generators to avoid any interruption to the college’s operations.
