Rohrig recently completed a significant refurbishment project at Moreton Bay College in Manly West, Brisbane, revitalising the all-girl school’s beloved Oriel Handley Hall for the future.

Design of the upgraded hall was undertaken by Novum, modernising the underutilised building with upgraded facilities, a rear covered deck extension and architectural elements that fit within the school’s existing design elements. The building will now serve as a flexible-use site, to be used for school assemblies, functions and even community use.

The Rohrig team worked closely with the architects to ensure costs were carefully managed while maintaining design intent and quality, which resulted in an overall saving of around 20 percent for the client.

Our team commenced this project with internal works, which included upgraded bathroom facilities and a new canteen. It was then time to tackle the external side of the refurbishment, which involved a complete re-roof and extended covered deck. An intricate perforated aluminium screen facade was then installed, offering a unique visual effect, and new pathways completed the refurbishment.

Despite challenging weather conditions, particularly during the re-roofing process, our team delivered this exciting project on-time and under-budget. We did this while working within a live school environment, which required careful management of noise and site activity.

The Oriel Handley Hall is a perfect example of Rohrig’s educational expertise, offering exceptional value and a world-class facility for students and educators.
