The Manly Hotel Elevated To New Heights

7 August 2024

Rohrig recently refurbished the popular Manly Hotel, revitalising the iconic 1960s pub for future generations to enjoy.

We divided the $6.7 million project into two stages: first, an extension was constructed and then various areas of the hotel were refurbished. Careful planning allowed the pub to remain operational throughout 11 months of construction works, demonstrating our commitment to keeping the doors open.

Cayas and Ward Architects conceptualised the new design, offering a luminous courtyard, elegant restaurant and sweeping terrace bar, harmonised with earthy elements like stone floors, brick facade and extensive use of timber.

The first stage of this project involved expanding the gaming room and amenities, and establishing a temporary gaming facility to ensure revenue was maintained through construction. We then remodelled the main bar and bistro, introducing an expansive breezeway bar and modern dining area for locals to enjoy. The main bar was also taken to another level – quite literally – through the removal of a slab above the bar to create a pop-up roof with a double-height ceiling.

We used a mix of traditional materials including stone, timber and brick, with distinctive features like an intricate curved brick facade, stone floors, and timber details throughout the refurbished areas. The brick facade is accentuated with LED lights, while skylights within the pop-up roof flood the hotel with natural light.

Our commitment to minimising disruption is always a top priority, with well-planned staging and staggered handovers allowing The Manly Hotel to continue serving thirsty locals.

“We understand hospitality and work with our clients early on to ensure trading can continue throughout a project, with a big focus on safety and minimising disruption,” said Rohrig Construction Manager, Ben Dyhrberg.

“This project was also delivered to the client with minimal defects, which is an achievement we are proud to accomplish time and time again.”

Rohrig has a longstanding history of successful collaboration with ALH Group, having completed projects like The Brook Hotel, Gap Tavern, and Camp Hill Hotel in recent years.

“We love bringing the ALH Group’s vision to life for projects like The Manly Hotel, as well as the various other hospitality venues we have been involved with,” Mr Dyhrberg said.

“Refurbishments like this elevate pubs and really put them on the map for locals and out of towners to visit, so we are always proud to breathe new life into venues – it’s what we are known for.”

Our results are testament to our hospitality expertise, with many of Queensland’s best pubs and clubs under our belt.
