Saint Stephen’s College Junior Hub inspires the next generation

16 September 2025

Rohrig is proud to have completed the future-focused two-storey Junior Hub at Saint Stephen’s College, Upper Coomera, Queensland. This major milestone in the school’s master plan provides an inspiring environment for its youngest learners.

Saint Stephen’s College is a Prep to Year 12 educator that aims to build the foundations for life-long learning. The new Junior Hub embodies this outlook, designed to inspire Prep to Year Six students with interactive spaces and an immersive layout that encourage curiosity and creativity.

Designed by Burling Brown Architects, the Junior Hub features highly adaptable learning spaces, a spacious multi-use hall, a uniform store, and collaborative breakout areas that are interwoven with the landscaped outdoor environment.

A striking feature of the building is its intricate steel ‘tree branch’ facade, as well as tree-themed structural steel support elements, creating a seamless transition between the built and natural environments. The building also showcases exceptional finishes, utilising no less than five different cladding materials, resulting in a level of quality rarely found in schools.

External works were extensive, including large-scale landscaping, sporting field design, playground construction, tiered mosaic tile seating, and new pathways that enhance the connection between indoor and outdoor learning areas. Several new bridges integrate the Junior Hub with surrounding buildings, creating a cohesive campus layout.

Undertaking this project within a live school environment required meticulous planning and programming to ensure minimal disruption to the daily activities of teachers, students, and parents. This is a specialty area of ours, having completed countless major education projects without impacting stakeholders.

“A live school environment presents a myriad of challenges, but we’re experienced in delivering major education projects without impacting stakeholders,” said Matthew Tucker

“The Rohrig team develops solutions early, building our programme around the needs of the school community, with safety at the core of everything we do.”

Rohrig is proud to be a lading builder of schools and educational facilities, delivering projects that enhance learning experiences now and into the future. The Saint Stephen’s College Junior Hub stands as another example of our enduring commitment to educational excellence.
