Rohrig wins big at Master Builders Awards

11 October 2023

We are proud to have won top honours in two categories at this years Master Builders Brisbane Housing & Construction Awards, held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre on July 15.

The bar was set high heading into the awards this year, with many of the region’s top builders delivering world-class construction projects across residential, industrial, commercial and community categories.

Rohrig was honoured to be acknowledged at the awards for the Tzu Chi Community Centre and the Jubilee Hotel, both complex but rewarding projects we are proud to have been a part of.

Our work constructing an all-new facility at the long-standing Tzu Chi Community Centre, designed by Neylan Architecture, won the Community Service Facilities award category recognising the state-of-of-the-art facility.

The five-level community centre, which was built on a brownfield site, will serve as a valuable community centre offering childcare services, parent-child activities, disaster relief, offices and shared spaces, a lecture hall, coffee shop and bookstore.

This project required extensive value engineering, through use of alternative materials that met the original design intent but allowed a cost-effective, high-quality end result.

Meanwhile, the Jubilee Hotel took out the Refurbishment/Renovation over $5 million category, acknowledging our meticulous restoration of the 134-year-old heritage-listed pub, working with JGL Properties and Blight Rayner Architecture.

Now one of Brisbane’s go-to pubs, the Jubilee Hotel was restored and renovated to offer an extended footprint nearly twice the size housing a larger beer garden, second kitchen, bistro dining area, additional function spaces, three bars, offices, and a microbrewery.

We even restored the extensive heritage brickwork to its natural state, removing lead paint to restore the stunning facade to its former glory.

Just weeks earlier, the Jubilee Hotel also won a Queensland Hotels Association (QHA) Award, for Excellence in the Best Redeveloped Hotel – General Division, proving new life can be breathed into historic hotels.

We would like to extend our congratulations and thanks to our clients and their designers, sub-contractors and project teams that made both projects so successful, as well as thanking Master Builders Queensland for the acknowledgements.

“These are two projects that we are really proud of, made possible by our clients, sub-contractors and in-house team who come together to deliver jobs like these,” said Rohrig Group General Manager QLD, Alexei Avsenev.

As we approach the 36th annual Queensland Master Builders Housing & Construction Awards, held in October, we will have our fingers crossed not only for Rohrig, but also for the many industry colleagues also in the running.
