Hills International College Elevated with Cutting-Edge Sports Centre
Rohrig recently completed a Health and Physical Education centre at Hills International College in Jimboomba, Queensland, marking a significant step forward for the school as it takes its rich sporting pedigree to the next level.
This architecturally striking facility, thoughtfully designed by Novum and expertly constructed by Rohrig, will inspire the next generation of athletes with a layout that fosters activity, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Novum are specialists in school architecture and the team set out to create a truly world-class sporting facility at the college, to champion physical activity and wellbeing.
The new centre is a testament to Novum’s vision, boasting an array of facilities. Students now have access to five beach volleyball courts, expansive covered multi-use courts, a fully equipped gymnasium, a dedicated sports stage, and spectator seating.
The Rohrig team offered significant value engineering before kicking off construction, collaborating with the college to ensure maximum value, usability, and long-term durability for the new HPE centre. The benefits of meticulous planning are evident in the exceptional end result, but the Rohrig team is also proud to have completed the project two weeks ahead of schedule.
The project presented unique complexities, requiring our team to work within a live school environment, manage multiple concurrent work fronts, and we also integrated a new two-kilometre fire ring main that will provide future protection for the 8,000sqm site.
“Delivering a facility of this scale and calibre, especially ahead of schedule, is a fantastic outcome and we are now embarking on the college’s new STEAM Centre,” said Rohrig Construction Manager, Elliot Sterling.
“Our team thrives on finding innovative solutions, from the initial value engineering that elevated the project’s potential, to the execution of Novum’s ambitious design and the complex staging required to manage multiple work fronts.
“It’s immensely rewarding to provide Hills International College with a HPE centre that will enhance the campus’s aesthetic and serve students for many years to come. Who knows, it might even help create one of Australia’s next star athletes!”
Our team is now working through the next stage in the college’s masterplan, with a new state-of-the-art STEAM Centre underway. This building will feature four specialist science learning spaces, dedicated art rooms, photography studio, general learning areas and amenities – enhanced with verandahs, link bridges, and stunning landscaped learning areas.
The new HPE centre at Hills International College takes the educator’s ongoing dedication to sporting excellence into the future. Rohrig is proud to have partnered with the college to bring this exceptional facility to life, and we can’t wait to see it utilised by the students for decades to come.
