St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace – Margaret Rice Place
Rohrig is excited to announce the completion of a major building refurbishment at St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace, enhancing the prestigious Brisbane school’s capacity as it expands to accommodate a growing student base.
The project involved the refurbishment of the six-level Margaret Rice Place, adding 14 new classrooms, a library, reception area, canteen, play space and amphitheatre for the junior school.
Our team collaborated with architects Macksey Rush, and project managers Hopscotch Projects, to bring this incredible vision to life, as the building – which was formerly a Salvation Army residence – was transformed from the inside out. We also worked closely with the architects to optimise the project, as well as assisting with value engineering through material selection.
A range of high-end materials and finishes were used throughout the fit-out, including stylish timber window and door frames, a unique curved bulkhead ceiling, and each level designed with a distinct colour theme to allow for easy student navigation.
Despite this project focusing primarily on the fit-out of the building, we also undertook external works fitting a new roof and windows, and a six-level stair and circulation structure was constructed within the building with additional lifts added. We then completed a link bridge, connecting the new Margaret Rice Place with the existing Waterford Place building, bringing the campus together.
Throughout this project the team isolated construction activity from the three bordering schools, ensuring noise levels were managed, safety maintained at all times and vehicle movements limited.
