Rohrig recently completed a large-scale project at Oakhill College in Castle Hill, New South Wales, expanding the school’s world-class facilities with a new purpose-built three-story administration and event hub.

The new building, called the Commons, contains offices, function spaces, meeting rooms, a full-size event kitchen and reception area, as well as featuring an amphitheatre and covered outdoor learning area.

Design of the building was undertaken by BVN Architecture, while Mostyn Copper handled project management, resulting in an incredible administrative and event space that matches the school’s existing Innovation Hub. This was also a design-and-construct project, requiring significant value engineering from the Rohrig Team.

A particularly interesting element of this building is that it is sized to the dimensions of a brick  – known as a brick bind – requiring precise construction that included custom-sized windows and doors to fit the unique proportions.

As the project took shape, our team created a covered outdoor learning area by constructing a glazed canopy between the existing Adrian building and new Commons building, as well as two link bridges connecting the sites.

The end result is nothing short of impeccable, with high-quality finishes and meticulous attention to detail throughout, showcasing a level of craftsmanship rarely found in an educational facility. The array of intricate finishes includes cork feature walls, Blackbutt timber flooring and partitions, a large LED screen for the amphitheatre, and a washed concrete exterior to merge the building with the surrounding environment.

This project was undertaken within a live school environment, which required shared access for pick-up and drop-off areas, as well as careful isolation of work sites to ensure minimal disruption to students and staff.
