Hendra Medical Centre

Rohrig had the great pleasure of constructing an all-new single-story medical facility, now home to the Hendra Medical Centre.

The client purchased two blocks of land for the new facility, after establishing growth opportunity at the residential location, but before construction began a heritage building had to be relocated.

A train conductor’s house for the rail yard was located on the site, which had to be retained and moved to a nearby location.

We worked closely with STAR PMCA, the Superintendent for the project, and Mode Design who handled architectural requirements, to establish a future-proofed design on the greenfield site.

The facility was built half on ground, and half on suspended slab, due to flood mitigation requirements, as well as requiring landscaping and a carpark.

During the construction phase we had to close two footpaths for the duration of works, as well as liaising with private residents on three sides of the job site.

Despite various foundation problems, such as poor soil quality, weak ground, and ground water surfacing, we were able to overcome these issues through compacting the foundation with added layers and bored piers.

To ensure ground water issues don’t arise in future, we designed and installed a water detention tank, allowing the client to pump ground water into a tank. The water then gets partially treated before being pumped back into the storm water network.

Despite some wide ranging challenges and residential constraints, we worked with relevant authorities and local council to complete the construction job on time.

While we didn’t undertake the fit-out, we provided the tenants with early access to allow the interior works to be completed.
