Danebank Anglican School For Girls, Carole Tisdell Learning Centre
Rohrig is proud to have constructed a new five-story building at Danebank Anglican School for Girls in Hurstville, New South Wales, expanding the growing school with the world-class facility.
The Carole Tisdell Learning Centre was designed by Gardner Wetherill Architects and managed by EPM Projects, featuring intricate acoustic panelling, curved walls and an eye-catching colour palette to set the growing school apart.
The five-story learning facility includes a reception area, administration offices, a junior and senior library, art and music rooms, canteen, 2 levels of classrooms for a multitude of subject learning. At the heart of the facility is a multifunctional Community & Staff Centre with adaptable meeting rooms, printing facilities, staff amenities, lounging, kitchen and dining facilities most of which also link to a partially covered external break-away deck area.
This project commenced with demolition of an existing school building, requiring careful planning and top-level safety as it was surrounded on three sides by a live school environment and main road. Throughout the project, operation of the school continued with student pick-up and drop-off maintained.
Once construction of the new building was underway, we had to take several unique safety precautions. The building is in close proximity to low voltage power lines, which were protected throughout the project and the luffing crane was carefully monitored to avoid clashes. The building also sits in a direct flight path and the crane required modification to avoid penetrating restricted airspace.
We also incorporated an additional refurbishment of the existing reception and wellbeing centre into the project, giving the facility a future-focused facelift.
