The Brook Lights Up The Night
Brisbane’s newest standout pub is here as the Brook Hotel in Michelton opens its doors to eager locals, offering an unprecedented open-plan dining and entertainment experience.
This $30+ million development, the largest ever for ALH Hotels, was designed by Cayas + Ward Architects and built by Rohrig in just over a year.
The Brook Hotel was demolished and in its place is the new large format hotel that will offer more than 100 hospitality jobs and an economic boost for the inner-north Brisbane region.
Adjacent to the Brook Hotel is the new Nightcap Plus hotel, and alongside it sits a similarly styled Dan Murphy’s store, all constructed as part of the exciting new precinct.
Construction across the 25,000m2 project was no small task, but it was one perfectly suited to us here at Rohrig.
“Our longstanding relationship with ALH, coupled with our solid reputation across the hospitality industry as preferred builders for major pub renovations, meant this project was right up our alley,” Construction Manager at Rohrig, Matthew Tucker said.
We demolished the old venue, building the new Brook Hotel on the same lot using a mix of materials across the gaming room, cold rooms, offices, kitchen, sports bar, main function room and bar, beer garden, terrace, kid’s room and bistro.
“Because we’ve done so many jobs with ALH, we understand how they operate and that makes a real difference on a large project like this,” Matthew said.
“Our hospitality-focused expertise really shines on a job like this, allowing us to do what we do best.”
An elevated contemporary design was adopted for this new hotel, offering a warm and inviting pub experience for patrons, with an open-plan focus that blends all areas of the venue together seamlessly.
“The venue has been designed to flow organically between interior and multiple external spaces, making the most of views and aspect to the North, and the fig tree focal point to the South,” Director at Cayas + Ward, Jeremy Ward said.
“The venue embraces a blended patron use model, blurring the lines between food and beverage offerings to create efficient, multi-use spaces that are appealing and welcoming to a diverse audience.”
The centrepiece of the new Brook Hotel is a 60-year-old Moreton Bay Fig, standing tall and lighting up the night with more than 7 kilometres of fairy lights adorning its mature branches.
An awe-inspiring beer garden surrounds the sage old Fig, providing the perfect setting to come together – and it’s even dog friendly!
A family-focused bistro offers a magical dining experience, with a menu that features pub classics made with fresh produce from the best local suppliers, as well as a delicious kid’s menu for the little ones.
Friday footy has never been better with an open sports bar, a total of 28 screens around the venue and an exceptional range of cold beer on tap to keep spirits high whether your team wins or loses!
The Nightcap Plus hotel recently opened too, so locals can enjoy a staycation just a stone’s throw from the Brook Hotel.
The four-storey hotel brings a fresh new accommodation option to Brisbane’s north west region, with rooms ranging from studios to apartments and a lobby lounge patrons can work or relax in.
The 40-room hotel is perfect for work or fun, and even has rooms suitable for families with a mix of studios and apartments.
Guest can relax in the lobby lounge or sweat it out in the gym, and corporate travellers have access to a boardroom and function spaces, with loads of on-site parking.
ALH has set a new precedent with this landmark development, proving the hidden potential in suburban pubs, rejuvenating a regional icon.
