Awarded the Master Builders NSW Excellence in Construction Award in the Private Schools up to $10 Million category, Rohrig delivered an inspiring new outdoor learning facility for Santa Sabina College’s Junior School. The dynamic environment supports both learning and play, creating an engaging outdoor space for the College’s youngest students.

The covered outdoor learning area features a sophisticated louvre system, angled to maximize sunlight in winter and provide shade during summer, while soft landscaped mounds encourage active and imaginative play. Working alongside project managers Pier Property Corp, architects M3architecture, and our team we delivered a space that thoughtfully connects students with nature, faith and creativity.

Connecting learning, play and nature

The project commenced with the removal of the existing play area, making way for a completely reimagined playground featuring bespoke equipment sourced from Denmark. Throughout the precinct, the design seamlessly integrates educational experiences with nature through functional riverbeds that serve as both creative play spaces and natural drainage systems.

Sandstone boulders positioned around the playground inspire curiosity, incorporating circular resin filled inlays displaying floating insects, while an intricate footpath inspired by rosary beads weaves throughout the precinct. Complete with prayers and donor plaques the pathway creates meaningful connections to the Colleges faith and heritage while enriching the student experience.

Our partners in success

Delivering a project of this scale within a constrained site surrounded by three neighbouring schools required careful planning, coordination and stakeholder management. Our team worked diligently to minimize disruption by managing noise levels, maintaining the highest safety standards and limiting vehicle movements throughout construction.

“Receiving the Master Builders NSW Excellence in Construction is a proud achievement for everyone involved. This recognition reflects the collaboration, dedication and expertise of our team and project partners, whose collective efforts brought this unique vision to life”, said Rohrig Construction Manager Dane Malone.

Congratulations and thank you to our clients, subcontractors and the Rohrig team for their commitment and partnership in delivering a lasting educational legacy for Santa Sabina College students.
