Rohrig supports Al-Faisal College – Liverpool with an accelerated multi-stage expansion
Rohrig is thrilled to announce the successful expansion of Al-Faisal College – Liverpool, located in Austral, through the delivery of two state-of-the-art educational buildings supporting the existing infrastructure on the school site for the independent school’s fast-growing student population.
The project saw the completion of Stage 3 and Stage 4 of the college’s 20-year master plan, undertaken concurrently. Our team delivered both stages ahead of schedule, with the new facilities providing staff and students with a seamless transition into the new spaces.
Mr Shafiq Khan, Founder and Managing Director of Al-Faisal Colleges – Auburn, Campbelltown, Liverpool and Lakemba, said the new buildings reflected the College’s commitment to creating environments that enhance student learning and wellbeing.
“Thoughtfully designed architectural spaces can shape how students engage, collaborate and feel at school. These contemporary facilities provide our students with welcoming, flexible and age-appropriate spaces that foster creativity, confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging, while supporting teachers to deliver rich and engaging learning experiences.”
Designed by school architecture specialists PMDL Architecture and Design, both new two-storey buildings serve as striking architectural additions to the existing school site. Stage 3 provides a welcoming two-storey building tailored specifically for the school’s Kindergarten students, while Stage 4 introduces a modern two-storey educational hub for Year 3 students, complete with a brand-new school canteen and servery.
Both buildings feature concrete roofs, open-air central atriums, and premium internal finishes like timber-look perforated aluminium feature ceilings, all tied together externally by an inspiring picture-frame facade and a new pedestrian bridge connecting areas of the school site.
Our collaborative working style and value engineering led to Rohrig being engaged for Stage 3 and Stage 4. By overlapping and delivering both stages together, we were able to unlock programme efficiencies and fast-track the entire development for the client.
Our team offered significant structural value engineering for this project, converting the original suspended slabs to a post-tensioned system, re-engineering the piles, and simplifying footing and lining designs to deliver cost savings for the client.
“Delivering two major school buildings simultaneously within a busy, operational school environment requires precision, planning, and professionalism,” said Rohrig Construction Manager Kyle Da Silva.
“Our absolute priority was keeping students and staff safe while avoiding any disruptions to the school day. We meticulously coordinated with the College to sequence all major concrete pours and heavy deliveries outside of peak pick-up and drop-off times, and water and power cutovers to existing school buildings were performed after hours.”
“Handing over both buildings before the programme end date so the school could comfortably move in before term started was incredibly rewarding for our entire team.”
At Rohrig, we believe that exceptional learning spaces have the power to transform lives and inspire the next generation. We are incredibly proud of our partnership with Al-Faisal College – Liverpool and look forward to seeing these facilities enjoyed by students and educators.
