Moranbah Community Workers Club

Rohrig recently completed a major refurbishment and expansion of the Moranbah Community Workers Club, located in regional Queensland, future-proofing the much-loved community club as it continues to grow.

BSPN Architecture redesigned the inviting local venue with an extension of the existing building, making space for a more expansive function room, main bar, full-size commercial kitchen, staff offices, store room and a new car park.

We were engaged to undertake Stage 4 of this project, having previously completed the Stage 2 upgrade to the gaming and sports bar in 2013, offering an intimate understanding of the venue and its master plan.

The site team used 3D LiDar scanning to map the existing structure, allowing for seamless integration of the extension, prior to commencing works. This process ensures improved planning, efficiency and accuracy for projects like this one.

Construction commenced with electrical upgrades, before existing areas were stripped and renovated, resulting in a new function space and enormous 390m2 kitchen with cold rooms, freezer rooms, preparation areas and significantly greater capacity for the growing club.

We then poured a suspended slab to form the roof for the new area, which also future-proofed the venue, offering the ability to ‘build up’. Meanwhile, an all-new 64-bay carpark was constructed outside, featuring dedicated drop-off areas and connecting driveways.

The Rohrig team played a pivotal role throughout the early contractor involvement (ECI) process, working through the project viability, assisting to turn the budget sensitive project around and enhancing scope by engaging the local market.

This project was undertaken in a live operating environment, both internally and externally, but through the use of careful programming patrons were able to enjoy the club throughout works. Our site team ensured safe entry and exit points and construction activity was isolated from the public.
