Rohrig modernises Pottsville Tavern with major refurbishment
The Rohrig team is proud to have completed a multi-stage refurbishment at the Pottsville Tavern in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.
Delivered alongside architects Cayas & Ward, the project breathed new life into the beloved local venue, opening up the floorplan and elevating the dining and entertainment experience for patrons.
“I have personally utilised Rohrig Constructions for many projects over the years, and it was great to reconnect with Glenn and the team for the renovation of the Pottsville Tavern. Our team delivered the internal and external works across three distinct stages, while allowing the venue to continue operating for the entirety of the project through careful and considered programming.
The scope covered the main bar, bistro, and gaming room, alongside a revamped beer garden, external dining spaces, Designated Outdoor Smoking Area (DOSA), new signage, landscaping, and a carpark upgrade.
Inside, the removal of old brick walls opened up the venue, while the installation of feature timber battens modernised and also reinforced the bistro ceiling to create a spacious and inviting environment.
Meanwhile, the outside areas were exposed to the elements, so the Rohrig team installed specialised finishes, including a custom metal ceiling that cleverly directs rainwater into an integrated garden space to protect the exposed gaming area.
Navigating an older building brought a number of unknowns, among them a roof that would likely need to be replaced. Through careful collaboration with the architect our team successfully offered alternative repair solutions that ended up saving the client from a complete roof replacement, while providing long-term durability.
“Delivering a refurbishment of this scale within a live hospitality environment requires precision and constant communication,” said Rohrig Construction Manager, Ben Dyhrberg.
“We placed patron safety and venue operations at the core of our delivery, deploying two foremen to concurrently manage the internal and external works. By setting up a temporary gaming room and carefully staging the build, we ensured the kitchen, bistro, and bar never stopped trading.”
Adding further value to this project, Rohrig facilitated an early handover to allow the venue staff to conduct operational test runs before the official launch.
