Canterbury College, Bareibun Precinct
Rohrig is proud to have constructed a new multi-story learning facility at Canterbury College, expanding the educator’s facilities for its junior students.
The new general learning area (GLA) building and accompanying covered outdoor learning area (COLA), complete with nature-filled landscaping, form the award-winning school’s broader Bareibun Precinct catering to Prep-Year 2 students.
This exciting multi-storey building and outdoor area include eight dedicated learning areas, library, flexible learning rooms, STEM classroom, dance studio, staff room, and a large covered area with projector and audio equipment. The outdoor learning area is also connected with pathways and immersive landscaping that offers an inspiring connection to nature.
Wilson Architects designed the new facilities, bringing a wealth of education design experience to the high-end project. The use of round shapes offers visual inspiration for students, with circular elements featured within the facade, curved retaining walls, and shaped balustrades on the first-floor verandah.
The project commenced with the demolition of two existing buildings, before the new multi-storey building was constructed. The school also required various smaller landscaping projects, which we incorporated into the broader project.
While this project took place within a live learning environment, we undertook certain components of the construction activity outside of school hours and on student holidays. Throughout the project, we installed high fencing and hoarding to separate students from the working areas.
