St Joseph’s College, Coomera
Rohrig is proud to have completed a large-scale multi-building project at St Joseph’s College in Coomera, on the Gold Coast, enhancing learning outcomes for the educator’s growing student base.
Design of Stage Four of the college’s Master Plan was undertaken by Macksey Rush Architecture, which includes a new main building, specialist learning areas, staff offices, a carpark extension and two stages for productions and performances.
Rohrig undertook building works across seven separate stages at the college due to the various areas of construction being dispersed throughout the campus, which included the all-new building, three extensions, four room renovations and a carpark extension. The construction at each area was undertaken concurrently, allowing the school to operate unhindered.
The new building, which was the largest component of this project, includes food technology classrooms, a full-size commercial kitchen, cafe, general learning areas, changerooms and amenities. This building also features a curved concrete feature wall, providing visual cohesion with existing buildings.
Of the extensions we undertook, the largest required adjustments to the construction methodology to suit site constraints. This was due to the existing roof overhanging 3m, which required changing a 15m continuous piling system to a split pile construction.
This project required careful staging, allowing the school to use certain rooms and buildings at different stages of the project. Our solution was to undertake various elements of the project during school holidays, ensuring the facilities were uninterrupted and the programme condensed.
The Rohrig Team ensured that construction works did not impede the college’s capacity, working around student drop-off and pick-up, lunch breaks, assemblies and other on-campus activities. Due to the complexity and dispersed nature of the upgrades, we had additional site managers and safety personnel on-site to manage all aspects of the project.
Rohrig is your trusted partner in education, having completed countless major projects around Australia, and we are proud to add St Joseph’s to the list of success stories.
