Rohrig Elevates Leading Hervey Bay Venues
Rohrig is proud to have elevated the growing Hervey Bay region with the refurbishment and expansion of both the Golf Club and RSL – future-proofing the popular venues for members and guests. The refurbishments followed the all-new Burpengary Community Club we built for the client back in 2021, and we were thrilled to apply our hospitality expertise further north.
We kicked off the upgrades with the Hervey Bay Golf Club, modernising and extending the clubhouse for the popular club, allowing it to service an ever-growing member base. Architecture was undertaken by Bloc Designs, who conceptualised a golf hole themed entry and a light-filled layout offering spectacular views of the course.
At the heart of this project are the significantly larger kitchen, additional function and dining spaces, and extension of the sports bar and gaming area to allow for increased patron numbers. From the outside, visitors are now greeted with a luxurious new entry and reception area, offering the perfect start to a day on the course.
We also used our full-size mockup service for the kitchen and function areas, allowing the client to fine-tune the space for operational efficiency – right down to testing and optimising travel paths from the kitchen to various service areas. The innovative kitchen design now allows dual service capabilities, catering to both function spaces and the club bistro during peak times.
“This project showcased our hospitality excellence, from the early planning through to the full-size kitchen mockup we provided,” said Rohrig Construction Manager, Elliot Sterling.
“The end result is a space that is both inviting for patrons and efficient for workers, with a design that ticks every box. It’s so good we think we’ll have to visit again for a round of golf!”
Following the success of the Golf Club, Rohrig was asked to provide a similar makeover for the ageing RSL club in town. Of course, we were thrilled to return to Hervey Bay! The RSL rejuvenation project included an extensive refurbishment inside and out, both enhancing and expanding the local favourite as its popularity continues to grow.
This project featured complex elements such as an intricate external facade, extended dining room and ceiling design that aimed to match the three-decade-old existing ply. Our team first extended the dining room, using a suspected slab and concrete support columns to perfectly match the existing room’s height. While we were extending the dining room, the team also upgraded the amenities, cold rooms, bar and kitchen to cater to the larger space.
A unique challenge when refurbishing the RSL was the required colour matching of the new ply ceilings and bar area with the ‘aged’ sections. To achieve an accurate colour match, we worked closely with a supplier to tint the new ply. The result is a seamless transition between existing and new spaces.
“The RSL was in need of refurbishment and having undertaken previous projects for the client, Rohrig was a perfect match,” Sterling said.
“There were some complex components to this project, but we love finding innovative solutions to challenges. Our colour-matched ply, the suspended slab dining room extension and the timber-look aluminium facade really elevate the local favourite and we couldn’t be happier with the end result.”
Both projects were undertaken in live operating environments, allowing both the client and patrons to continue utilising the facilities without disruption. This requires careful planning and programming, but the Rohrig team is committed to ensuring our clients continue trading throughout hospitality projects like these ones.
